You’ve been undergoing Invisalign treatment for a few months now. Everything was going great until you started feeling like your aligners didn’t fit the way they should. This could mean that the aligners are not properly “tracking” your teeth. If you don’t correct this issue, your treatment could end up taking much longer than originally planned. Here are four easy tips to get your timeline for Invisalign in Highland Village back on track.

1. Properly Seat Your Aligners with Invisalign Chewies

Invisalign “chewies” are flexible, soft rolls of material that resemble earplugs. Their purpose is to help “seat” your aligners on your teeth. After you clean your teeth and place your aligners back in, simply chew on one of these chewies for a few minutes. This forces the aligners into their ideal position over your teeth. It’s particularly helpful after you’ve just switched to a new pair of aligners since they’re more likely to be tighter.

2. Wear Your Aligners for 20+ Hours a Day

You should wear your aligners for at least 20 hours a day, preferably 22 or more. Wearing them less often will cause your teeth to not move as quickly, delaying the completion of your treatment. Ideally, you should only remove your aligners when you’re eating, drinking, brushing, or flossing.

3. Ask Your Dentist If You Should “Backtrack”

“Backtracking” involves wearing your previous set of aligners instead of your current ones. This ensures that your teeth have finished shifting into the correct position. However, be sure to contact your dentist before trying this on your own to make sure it’s the right choice for you.

4. Schedule an Appointment for an Invisalign Treatment Revision

In some cases, your teeth might simply not be cooperating with the plan laid out at the beginning of your Invisalign treatment. You might need to book a consultation with your dentist. They can assess your mouth and determine whether an adjustment needs to be made to your treatment plan. You may be issued some new aligners or Invisalign attachments or buttons for some extra help in moving your teeth into the proper alignment.

If your aligners aren’t tracking as they should, it’s not the end of the world. The best thing to do is to call your dentist. They can help you finish your treatment right on schedule.
